I think it is cool. I always think of that world existing in her head anyway, so I don't mind her giving out more information.

Meh. I still love Dumbledore. Don't see why that comment had to be mentioned at all, why not just leave it up for speculation?

That makes total sense, Brandy. I think that since Deathly Hallows is so recent and that it was a legitimate question from a curious fan at a reading, that it is alright. It's not like she just came out of nowhere and was like, 'oh hey everyone, Dumbledore was gay this whole time!'. But I do see how it can be thought of as like cheating, tying up all lose ends complete with a little bow. It doesn't leave much for people to come up with their own conclusions about characters. If that makes sense.

If one day she does start spewing random facts out of the blue, no book tours or questions asked, then I think I would be pretty annoyed. Right now, I don't mind so much, but we'll see how long that lasts!

I love that you wrote a post about this!! As a die-hard fan, I have to admit, that I worship Rowling in an almost unhealthy way. I have to say though, I wasn't really a fan of her announcement. Not that I care that Dumbledore is gay (I ditto the above comment in how it shines a great light on the gay community), I just don't know how I feel about Rowling continuing to discuss characters and giving out information that wasn't in the book. I mean, of course, I like her discussing characters, but I don't like getting new information about them. It feels almost like, cheating. We all followed the books, we all fell in love with the characters. I would just hate to read in 15 years Rowling is coming out with new stuff like 'I never said this before but Harry was left-handed', or something. I don't really know how to explain it (obviously from this comment). Le sigh. Maybe I will try again later.

I think this is a great bit of information. Personally, I don't see why people are so upset about it either because I think it says something positive about gay people. Dumbledore was the smartest, most respectable character in the whole series. Fans were devastated when he died, and so was I actually. It shines a positive light on the gay community. Homosexuals are just as smart, considerate, and respectable as anyone else.
