S.O.S JTB

December 4th, 2007 at 10:51 am . Posted in mp3s, music .

If anyone knows what that is from, I will give you a million dollars. Okay, not really, but you would be my new best friend.

Every once in awhile, I go on a music kick where I rediscover how much I love a band and basically refuse to listen to anything but said band. Right now, I am definitely in that kind of mood about my favorite band, Jets to Brazil. Unfortunately, Jets to Brazil disbanded in 2003, right about when my obsession began and I never got to see them live. I can honestly say, if they ever decided to do a reunion show, no matter what, I would be there. I don’t care if I had to fly across the country, I’d book tickets as soon as I heard word.

Blake Schwarzenbach is incredible. He was in Jawbreaker also, another favorite. Basically, Blake is one of the main influences of so many bands and carved the shape of the indie/punk/emo scene and as Wikipedia says, is one of the “godfathers of emo”. But I don’t give a shit about all of that.

The man can write.

He’s one of those people you would kill just to have a conversation with, well, I would at least. So on this Tuesday, I am going to upload some songs from my favorite band in the world. Here’s two from each of their albums. They are beautiful and sad (some are sad), but so amazing. I had a hard time picking out only six!

Four Cornered Night
You’re Having the Time of My Life
Little Light

Orange Rhyming Dictionary

Chinatown
I Typed for Miles (my favorite song in the world ever)

Perfecting Loneliness
Cat Heaven
Further North

There you have it. My Jets to Brazil. If anyone would actually like the whole albums, email me and maybe you will get some holiday love from Blake and I in the mail!

Now, I propose a question: If you only had to listen to only one band (or artist) or album for the rest of your life, who would it be?

My ex-boyfriend loves JTB, and totally got me into their music as well… You have great taste!

Hmmm, one band though? Probably DMB. Or OAR. No, DMB.

    Stop this is too hard.

Oooh, that’s a tough one…some of my favorite albums include Jagged Little Pill (Alanis Morissette), Californication (Red Hot Chili Peppers), The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill (duh, Lauryn Hill) and Fly (The Dixie Chicks). Obviously, I love a wide range of music!

jets to brazil! Woot! i knew we were destined to be blogfriends. But one correction dear, I Typed for Miles is MY favorite song, pretty much ever. Its angry, its happy its hot. He’s hot. Sigh….

But to only listen to one artist ever? Don’t make me choose! I’d rather just die.

And this reminds me of that one Lindsay Lohan movie…(which one was it? Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen? Why do I know more than one LL movie??) where she wants to just have a conversation with the lead singer of her favorite band because he’s like so deep and she knows they’d just click, but then when he does he’s a total dud. I wouldn’t want to ruin the connection I have with any of my favorite lyricists. besides I’d probably be too busy “remember that time you wrote I typed for miles? That was awesome” and making a total fool of myself.

I think I’d have to go with DMB…their songs just define so many memories since high school. Plus they have like a billion songs, so it’d be better than choosing someone with only an album or two under their belt.

Or James Taylor. Shucks, I have no idea who I would choose!

I know that song! I love it! Can we be best friends now? Or is that just creepy? :p

If I had to pick one band, it would probably be Johnny Cash. He has a large enough catalog to keep things interesting and songs to suit every mood.

Ooh. I can only pick one band? I’d need more time to narrow it down to one, but it would be between Rilo Kiley, Barenaked Ladies, Brandi Carlile and Billy Joel.

I’ll definitely have to check them out. But I think my band of choice would have to be O.A.R. I love all their music and could listen to them forever. Them or Josh Kelley, he’s pretty dang amazing too.

If only one album, it would have to be Ryan Adams – Heartbreaker. But I would love to have his whole collection because damn, that boy has a lot of songs. It would take me a while to get sick of them.

And if I could cheat and bring just one other album, it would be Counting Crows – August and Everything After.

I’ll definitely be checking JTB out :)

If I could only pick one artist, I would also pick Ryan Adams (Yay Carrie!). He is seriously amazingly talented and writes like a maniac. I don’t think I would ever get sick of him. If I had to choose an album, it would probably be Cold Roses, but I love them all. Cannot wait until his box set comes out!!!!

I don’t think I could choose. I used to listen to Sarah McLachlan a lot as a teen and now every time her songs come on my media player, I skip.

Little Light lyrics? Jets to Brazil? That’s it. If we weren’t friends before, this seals the deal. Nice job being awesome.

Oh Lord, I don’t know if I can choose. Dave is definitely up there. And Billy Joel too. (Good call Steph.) Also Counting Crows would have to be a finalist. Wow, that is a tough one. I might have to get back to you.

holy crap thats a tough question. lol I’d sound like a tool if I said Fall Out Boy, but something tells me I might get sick of them later on. Maybe if Amy Winehouse didn’t peak after 2 songs should could’ve been a contender as well!

    Stopping by again!
If I had to, it’d be Jason Mraz. No one knows who he is…. but he’s pretty awesome.
I’d go for the ‘Selections For Friends’ live album though, rather than anything recorded in a studio. Like him better live.

I could never live with just one band or just on album. I go back and forth. But I’ll have to listen to your suggestions. They sound so good.
