Steven Meisel has just shot an entire issue of Vogue Italia with all black models, hoping that other issues of Vogue start to diversify their own portfolios.
Apparently, all of the photo shoots have already happened, as model bookers at various agencies have been contacted and sourced for new, beautiful, not-white girls — and now they’re twittering about how cool the issue will be.
No word on when the issue will hit stands or who’s on the cover (Jourdan Dunn? Chanel Iman?)
I love this so much. Time to get some diversity in the fashion world. Now lets get us Hispanic girls and some Asian girls in the mix. Love it.

I wholeheartedly agree!!! It’s about time fashion (and other media and entertainment) catch up to reality.
This is great news. I think darker skin is stunning! I see enough models with pasty white skin like mine :p
i agree totally but i find it funny how the fashion world just seems to be clueing in on the beautiful diversity all around us. Its like, really? You just got this now?!
that girl up there is gorgeous!
This is awesome. I’m in the midst of a study on hegemonic/dominant beauty standards and I really think making alternative representations of beauty more common is the first step to combating how we define beauty and even how we define race and ethnicity.
Buuuuut maybe I’m optimistic :-)
How cool! It’s about time the fashion world caught on!
that is AWESOME… as long as tyra is not involved haha!
I’m excited to see how it turns out. I also love Dunn & Iman.
Love it!
I agree. We’ve got some good Latin American Supermodels (Adriana, Alessandra, Gisele) but no new fresh faces, really. It’s nice to see diversity and hopefully it’ll stick.
