This was such a fun weekend! It was hot but not too hot. Yes, it was ridiculously hot for some people but honestly, compared to the past few years at Lolla, it wasn’t too bad. In case you missed me twittering each and every breath I made since stepping foot in Grant Park, I’ll do a little recap of who I seen.

Friday:

On Friday the first person we wanted to see was Duffy. We hit some traffic though so we got there right as she was ending which was a bummer. Then a friend was djing so we went to go see him for awhile. We caught some of the Cool Kids and then the end of CSS. They were hilarious. The singer was like, “We love you, Chicago! Top Chef, Kathy Griffen! Woo!”. Is Kathy Griffen from Chicago? I don’t even know but it was too funny. After that, boyfriend and I got some food and we walked toward that madness that was about to be Radiohead. One whole side of Grant Park was FULL of people. The crowd was pretty insane. Here is a picture of a tiny bit of the crowd.

The stage all the way in the back on the left is where they were playing. It was out of control. William and I scouted out some grassy area and laid down a blanket and just chilled. They played an amazing set and sound impeccable live. After we left Grant Park, we went to Angels & Kings for an after party. I kept hoping Jessica would show up but no luck. I still had a great time though!

Saturday:

We were pretty much running late every day this weekend so we always missed the people we wanted to see that were playing early. Saturday we had missed The Ting Tings but got there to catch some of Devlin and Darko. They were tons of fun and not playing the usual shit you hear everytime you see a dj. It was great. We caught most of MGMT but they were pretty drowned out of the sounds of Booka Shade. I think it was just where we were sitting. While that was happening, special guest dj, Samantha Ronson was djing over at the Perry tent and Lindsey Lohan was in the house. Can’t forget Slash either. He was there as well. Then Brand New was going to go on at the same time as Explosions in the Sky which was pretty lame but we both really wanted to see Brand New. There was no shade anywhere by that stage so I set up our blanket almost in the middle of the field. I was kind of disappointed they didn’t play more from Deja Entendu but it was still great seeing them. Jesse Lacey kept saying he didn’t know why people were watching them when Explosions was playing. He seemed a bit angry haha and then threw his guitar at the drum set when he was done and cracked it. Up next was DJ AM then Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings followed by Danny Masterson djing. We ended up the night watching some of Rage Against the Machine. They had to stop the show a few times because people we getting hurt and carried out in stretchers. It was just insane.

Sunday:

Late start again. No one good was playing until 1:15 and even at that The Weakerthans cancelled so I didn’t feel too bad about getting there late. Walked in and caught some friends djing again. We just kind of chilled until Chromeo and The Black Kids played which was cool, we wandered back and forth between both. I caught some of Iron and Wine which was fantastic. More friends djed then we made our way on over to wait for Mark Ronson start. Gnarles Barkley was playing at the stage behind us so we ended up hearing some of their set too. Mark Ronson was easily the best act we seen all and no, it wasn’t just because he is a freaking babe.

He brought out Rhymefest, Daniel Merriweather, Phantom Planet and so much more. It was amazing and I had a blast. He brought out all of Phantom Planet to play California which was pretty funny because William and I were joking that they have no other songs besides “The OC song”. But really, that guy has a great voice and it was a cool suprise. Evidently, Mark was a hot comoddity, Ashlee Simpson, Pete Wentz and Danny Masterson were all on stage watching him play. His set was the highlight of the weekend for me. If you haven’t yet heard his album, Versions, I suggest you get to downloading.

We closed the night out jumping between Kanye and NIN. I’m not really a Nine Inch Nails fan but it was cool to see them, I guess. I had just seen Kanye a couple months ago too but he always puts on an amazing show.

And that was Lolla. I’m sunburned, exhusted and tired still from it but it was a great lineup and totally worth it.
