dazzle me, edward!

A few weeks ago, Jessica Maria asked her readers if she should pick up the hyped up, bloodsucking teenage novel, Twilight. I was like – you jump, I jump and so our super awesome internetz book club was born. We both finished it and last night we talked Edward Twilight.

It’s kind of long and my formatting got screwed up but if you are a fan of Twilight or thinking about reading them or just plain interested in how a convo with either of us would go, check it out. Oooh, and there is pictures – pretty vampire pictures! Those alone are worth it!

Jessica: you’ve effin’ finished the SECOND book?!

Jessica: you’re on the third or have you finished the third??

Jamie: it’s ridiculous. i went to target saturday night and picked up the second and third

Jamie: and now have finished both

Jamie: i’m kind of ridiculous

Jamie: but i was totally sucked in and NEEDED to know what happened.

Jessica: right right

Jessica: i finished the first and definitely want to know what happened

Jessica: well, let’s talk about the FIRST one hahaha

Jamie: hahah i know right, jumping ahead of myself here!

Jessica: okay, so a of all, if i was fifteen this would be a tome for me

Jessica: as a military kid who went to three high schools and was always the new kid

Jessica: but i would have turned into a sulky kid, without an edward… so it’s good i didn’t read it in highschool

Jamie: seriously, high school girls are dying right now because there is no edward in their lives

Jamie: no one to dazzle them!

Jessica: oh gawd

Jessica: some her words though – like “dazzle”

Jessica: made me scrunch up my face

Jamie: really! i was like who says that!?

Jessica: there were a lot of really funny lines that made me laugh

Jessica: oh man! there was one that was SO hilarious, but i forgot to mark it

Jessica: it was like, “if he left i would only be left with a perilous anguish and depression” – cheese

Jamie: i know! it was so dramatic at times

Jessica: okay, also, nobody in the entire story ever smiled

Jessica: is the word “smile” in the book?

Jessica: all i picture are intense stares

Jamie: agreed. everyone was so serious

Jessica: she’s always disgruntled and edward is always just intense and silentish

Jessica: even the end when she’s supposed to be yay! happy! i’m alive!

Jessica: she’s all complaininz about makeup and a dress

Jamie: it was prom! that’s what people do! how did she not know about it

Jamie: obviously lost in edward’s dazzle-ing

Jessica: hahaha

Jamie: it made me laugh about the kid who showed up at her house thinking they were going to prom together though

Jessica: haha, that is true

Jessica: he was a little comic relief in all the “i’m gonna hunt you down and killz you” stuff

Jessica: and ps you can’t be with me because you’re gonna die and i will live forever

Jamie: and then OMGZ I’m old!

Jamie: you’re like a year older, chill!

Jessica: that freak out was so stupid

Jessica: she’s all sad on her birthday and angry on prom

Jessica: dude, your boyfs is hot and loves you eternally and you’re all disappointed with life?

Jessica: ps you’re alive, you almost died.

Jamie: okay this is kind of stupid but in the beginning when they were talking about how they dont hunt humans

Jamie: i was thinking well wtf how do they survive?!

and i was well Carlisle is a doctor at a hospital and they have blood there! they totes steal blood for like infusions and stuff

Jessica: hahaha great guesswork! too bad they like ‘em grizzlies and mountain lions

Jessica: okay okay okay important part: edward is fucking hot

Jamie: um YEAH he is!

Jessica: so after finishing the book i totally looked up the movie trailer and how they cast the movie…

Jamie: hahah i was going to bring this up !

Jessica: and that dude is kind of how i imagined him

Jessica: as in, that dude is fucking hot. oh hey! you fit!

Jessica: and then i saw him on perez today (i did NOT put those hearts on him) and his face is kinda lopsided

Jessica: or like, if you cover up one half of that pic he has a certain face and if you cover up the other he looks like another person

Jamie: i totally agree

Jamie:  i was looking at these stills earlier and he looked so good and i’m trying to find the stupid post with them

Jamie: when does the movie come out? november?

Jessica: december 16th

Jessica: what? how did i answer that so fast?

Jamie: http://community.livejournal.com/ohnotheydidnt/28878250.html#cutid1

Jessica: um, also, the trailers look really tied into the book, but still like a CW show

Jamie: i have yet to watch the trailers

Jessica: they’re like scenes from the book come to life, looks pretty good

Jessica: OMGZ HE’S SO HOT

Jessica: teenage moment.

Jamie: YES

Jamie: the one at the piano

Jamie: swoooon

Jessica: SERIOUS SWOON

Jessica: must. calm. down.

Jamie: omg edward stop dazzling us!

Jessica: hahahaha

Jessica: great casting, though in terms of looks

Jamie: i think kristen stewart was a good choice for bella too

Jessica: yes, definitely good

Jessica: i’m still looking at that pic of edward on the piano

Jessica: fact: this book made me feel like a teenager

Jessica: which isn’t a bad thing

Jamie: he’s all like, look at me with my Raybans. i’m all hot and shit

Jamie: and i say -  Yes, Edward. Yes, you are.

Jamie: hahahahahaha!

Jamie: i was so determined to hate these books

Jessica: me too!

Jamie: my sister was so disappointed when i told her i bought it and LIKED it

Jessica: i felt all teeny and wrapped in it BUT the writing was cheese

Jamie: definitely felt like a teenager

Jessica: i skipped over a lot of the exposition – like, i don’t care about the effin’ trees

Jessica: EDWARD!!!

Jamie: for real! she got a little too descriptive sometimes

Jessica: yeah, was not into that

Jessica: and bella wasn’t all that awesome as a character, like i said, i would be totally mopey if i was reading this as a teen

like, “hey she was all mopey and silent and stuff, but she got the hottest guy in school.”

Jamie: and was STILL mopey

Jessica: YEAH!

Jamie: what a waste

Jessica: i just can’t deal with people who can’t be happy when they should be

Jessica: as if she’s a real person…

Jessica: but, yes, i will give Twilight an enjoyable thumbs up

Jamie: hahah she is not a real person but edward…

Jamie: !!!

(Here, we proceed to fan girl out over photos of our new fictional crush, Edward Cullen. I’m not sure of the actor’s real name but whatever, even if I did, he would still be Edward. Anyway, while looking at stills from the movie we talk about a picture of Edward in the sun (vampires don’t always come out at night, duh) and in the book it says in the sunlight they are suppose to “glitter”. Did you know Jessica has mad photoshop skillz? Because she does! Read on…)

Jamie: like even in that picture of him in the sun that i sent you the post of

Jamie: he’s suppose to GLITTER

Jamie: i’m really curious how they are going to do that

Jessica: SPARKLES!

Jessica: that would be hilarious if they just covered him in glue and then actual glitter for that scene

Jessica: like, “oh by glitter, i mean he turns into a disco ball.”

Jamie: hahahahahaha

Jessica: oh man. i smell a photoshop opportunity here.

Jamie: that could be amazing

Jamie: HAHAHAHA

Jamie: I’M DAZZLED!

Jessica: vampires vom glitter, didn’t everyone know that??

Jamie: well they obviously will now!

Jamie: i’m way too amused by this

Jessica: hahaha dude, i just spent the time MAKING that

Final thoughts: It is a good quick read. You’ll probably feel like you are in high school again and/or finding your first love. Unfortunately, your first love probably wasn’t a ridiculously hot, glitter spewing vampire. But really, I give it two thumbs up!

1) First book? I was hoooked.

2) Second book? TERRIBLE. I hated the werewolf addition, I hated that a third of it was just her narrative of being depressed and I hated that Edward was barely in it.

3) Third book? It’s bringing me back in. I’m about two thirds of the way through.

4) I know it’s set in high school but I really wish they Dawson Creeked the movie and cast someone for Edward that didn’t make me feel like a child predator. My expectations for the movie are actually quite low. I’m afraid it’s going to be like a really long episode of Charmed.

yayayay!

can’t wait to talk about the movie when it’s released…hahaha

oh the amount of teenage things i enjoy…and do! photoshopping edward cullen = 25 years old? me? really?

[Reply]

It is seriously like they pumped heroin in those books. OMG amazing.

And the actor’s name is Robert Pattinson who also played another hottie from fiction; Cedric Diggory :)

[Reply]

I have it on my bookshelf just waiting to be read! I have a feeling like you I’ll be quite annoyed by Bella, but it’s next on the list of books to read. I can’t wait!

[Reply]

I am on book three and so in love with these stupid, non smiling kids. I seriously can not wait for the movie to open!

[Reply]

Edward’s amazing, but I puffy heart Jacob.
Also, the movie actually comes out on Nov. 21. Yay!

[Reply]

I LOVE the Twilight books and couldnt put them down. I can’t wait for the movie.

Those books are ridiculously fun! I felt like a high schooler reading them as well, and a little bit guilty swooning over Edward…BUT I HAD TO LOVE HIM. HE’S JUST SO DREAMY.

Swoon.

My roommate read them before me and we had some similar conversations. And now we mention him in passing, like an old flame, even with our respective boyfriends around.

“You didn’t do the dishes? Psh. Edward ALWAYS does the dishes.”

Needless to say, i’m excited about the film. Also, if you haven’t heard yet, the author’s website has 1/2 of her manuscript up of Midnight Sun, which is basically Twilight told from Edward’s perspective. I haven’t read it yet, but I hear it’s pretty good.

For real. I would totally hook up with a vampire and all that if my vampire looked like Rob! Those books were absolutely AMAZING.. and i felt like a teenager reading them too. and i’m 30. Its so wrong. The movie comes out NOVEMBER 21st. you best believe i will be at the midnight showing with my twilight t shirt on!

That glitter picture made me choke and snort pepsi up my nose. It sure as heck felt like how I imagine it would feel to spew glitter through my nose!

[Reply]

whatever you do don’t ruin the whole series by reading the 4th book, it’s awful!

[Reply]

I’ve been on the library holds list for this book for like 8 million years.

I so need a fantasy vampire boy like Edward in my life…

Sigh.

I miss Moonlight. Why did they cancel my Mick St.John?

[Reply]

lol It’s so high school it hurts – and I love it for that reason.

And I think that the image of Edward barfing sparkles is probably the best summary of any novel that I’ve ever seen. On so many levels, that is exactly what these books are about lol

Thank you so much, I almost died laughing at my desk and had to show my co-workers.

[Reply]

I loved and adored the first book, like the second book, was meh about the third, HATED the first half of the 4th, and was back to love and adoration by the end of the 4th book. Yup, that felt like teen romance to me!

Also, thanks for making me laugh…I’ve had a crappy day and you dazzled me!

[Reply]

You’re so funny… if I start a series and love the first book, I’ll go right out and buy the rest too!

Good thing this is a habit I developed AFTER the days of Sweet Valley High and Babysitter’s Club.

[Reply]

I too, am so in LOVE with Edward Cullen..Rob will play it gooodddd..

[Reply]

I LOOVED the first book. I couldn’t stop reading it, and I’m not usually what i would call a ‘reader’.. the second one annoyed me, the third was better but still lacked something.. and the fourth is so bad I will probably never finish it.

I also suspect the movie is going to be crappy, but I’m still going to see it ;)

[Reply]

ha. now you can see the movie the day it comes out. Husband will be dragged there.

[Reply]

I didn’t read all of your comments, but just wanted to make sure you know that Twilight comes out on November 21, not in December anymore. Since they postponed HP to next summer, they moved Twilight up a few weeks.

Yay!!

PS. The 4th book is by far the best.

This post is hilarious because I did the EXACT same thing this week. I was debating about whether or not I should read the Twilight series…I heard it was good, but I was really embarrassed to pick up a young adult sci-fi book at Border’s. But I swallowed my pride and bought the first one last week…

I started it Wednesday morning and I was immediately hooked. I couldn’t even believe how good it was. I read it on the bus to work…at lunch time…I snuck pages throughout the day…on the bus home…and then read it the whole night. I finished it Thursday night and I was dying to get the second book.

So about an hour ago I walked back to Border’s, bought the second book and now I am spiraling into the obsession once again. I can’t put it down.

And I think I am in love with Edward Cullen. Stephanie Meyer makes him sound so hot, it’s ridiculous.

The only thing I don’t like is the constant use of the word “chuckle”…that word creeps me out and it’s everywhere in the books.

But now there’s no one to discuss the books with because none of my friends have read them…so I’m glad there’s other people out there like me! :)

[Reply]

oh man, so bummed i was out of town when you wrote this. clearly, as you know, i also am a twilight fan.

for sure.

[Reply]

ummm.. so my GUY friend suggested that I pick up twilight.. so I did… and holy crap! In the past two weeks, I’ve read something like 2000 pages of the series and I can’t stop. When my Amazon delivery of books 3 and 4 were delayed, I seriously considered driving to the UPS facility and bitch slapping someone. Really, like crack. My husband is getting jealous… he says “all you ever want to do is read!!!!!” Then he picks up the 4th book, scans a page, and says “did a 6th grader write this?” It’s hard to explain. My college-educated (ENGLISH LITERATURE MAJOR) self cannot deny that the prose is no Austen – but man, there is something incredibly addictive about it.

Minure 1:20 to 1:23 of the new trailer. My whole office has read them or is mowing through them. I did 4 books in 10 days. Not awful but now i’m sad its over. Sexy sexy sexy sexy vampire.

[Reply]

The fourth book was alot to take in. It isn’t anything that I expected it to be.
I loved it yet I hated it.
We pretty much just had that whole ” love hate relationship” going on. :)

I wish she would still have the books written in Edward’s point of view…
I am PUMPED for this movie though!
