dog park

Edie went to the dog park for the first time today. It was pretty chilly when we got there so not many pups were out. There was a black lab and a boxer there when got there and, of course, my sissy dog was scared. We played at the opposite end of the dog run because she was kind of overwhelmed. Hopefully next week will be nicer and we can make a trip to Wicker Park dog park.

5 months old

Almost.

My little pup will be 5 months old next week. I can’t even believe it. It feels like I have had her forever! She’s getting huge. Last night, my sister and I had her out front in the grass and she was eating grass and gnawing on dandelions. Her legs are so short that you can barely tell she is standing up in the tall grass. She is still the other dog, Buttercup’s shadow and follows her closely. She tries herding us and my other dogs. I eventually would really like to get Edie into a agility class because I think she would have an blast. She  runs around the yard and driveway at full speed, dashing under and around the cars and stuff in yard. She’s pretty hilarious. When she gets excited, she tries to wag her tail but she doesn’t really have one, so it’s more of a butt wiggle. She loves boyfriend so much and freaks out when she sees him. We are going to take her to a dog park, hopefully, sometime this week. Also, we are going to try to have a play date with his beagle. I’m hoping they like each other! Enough rambling…on to the cute!

etsy puppy find

As you all know, I spoil my little corgi puppy rotten. I just can’t help it, she is adorable! She finally grew out of her first pink rhinestoned (YES, I am that girl) leash and collar a few weeks ago, so it was time to look for another. After trying not to buy out all of etsy’s leash and collars, I settled on this adorable one.

Some of you mentioned how stylish Edie’s leash was in the pictures I posted last weekend. It’s true, I might have the most fashionable pup in all of Chicago. Edie’s leash and collar (close up photo) are from 3POOCHYS on Etsy. It was made custom for my little pupperoo. They even sent me a little button hair tie covered in the same fabric so Edie and I can match! I see me buying more in the future because a pup has got to have variety!

My little Edie is almost 4 months old. I can’t believe she has been home for a little over a month.  She is slowly losing all her puppy fluff and getting her big girl coat. She is still soft and fluffy, but is just isn’t the same. Edie also got huge! She’s getting so big, she’s almost not a puppy anymore. She has quite the personality. She loves to cuddle, but only on her terms. She let’s you know when she doesn’t like something! I buy her all kinds of toys, but her favorites are empty water bottles and Tupperwear container tops. She likes to dig in her water bowl and make a big mess. I still need to get that on video because it’s hilarious. She is so determined.

I don’t feel like writing so I’m using puppy filler. As I said before, if you hate puppies - you have no soul. So keep on moving!

I’m Edie.

puppy paparazzi

At 10:30 this morning, Edie and I walked in to the local Petsmart for our second day of puppy kindergarten. Armed with my clicker and bag of pup treats, we were ready for anything…well, except for the mob of people that descended upon little Edie right as we walked it. About 5 people, a family of 3 and two workers, rushed us as soon as we walked in, not even 5 feet past the door way. After about ten minutes of letting them love on my pup, I tried to make my way in the store and oh, wait…more people. I got stopped at least 10 times, while waiting for class to start. It was like Britney swarmed by paparazzi, except no cameras and Edie has better hair.

Then comes up a little baby girl, toddling up to Edie and calling her a “baby” and I pick up my pup, so she can pet her and then I feel wet.

Pupperoo got scared of the baby and took it out on my pants.

Thankfully, it wasn’t a lot. Off we went to the bathroom and I cleaned up as best as I could. Now I’m ready to sit in class for an hour with a big wet mark on my thigh. Awesome. I practically ran from the bathroom across the store to the training area, shouting, “Thanks!” to the “OMG she’s so cute!”s as I pushed past trying to the avoid the “can I pet her?”s, because I was not trying to get peed on again.

New puppies are killer on my wardrobe.

Edie is quite smart and picks up new things quick. The other puppies are doing great too. There is a Chow Chow named Tater Tot, a Miniature Australian Shepard named Grace and a German Shepard mix named Faith. Faith really isn’t a puppy and is HUGE. I’m not really sure why she is in our puppy class, as it is only until 9 months old but whatever. I’m really looking forward to it each week now. Grace and Edie are the best of friends and would play all class if we let them. I’m going to try to get it on video next week. Tater Tot and Faith are a little bigger and want to play too, but always end up scaring the little ones.

Here is Tater Tot, Edie’s classmate. Cute, isn’t she?

Edie update

That’s Edie and I trying to take a photobooth picture on my MacBook and me making a face trying to get away from her. She likes trying to bite my hair. Edie in action and Jamie cringing.

Later today, I am driving to Petsmart and signing pupperoo up for puppy kindergarten. She definitely needs some formal training. I’ve been working really hard with her on the biting and nipping thing. I know a lot of it is just her being a puppy, but I want to break her out of it. My hands and arms can’t take it anymore!

Edie has two different kinds of nips. One is the superexcitedplayyippiehooray! nip and the other is the, what I call “niiiice” nip. The second is when she takes my finger and is very gentle, it’s kind of like she is lightly chewing and then tries to lick me at the same time. I let her do that, because she really understands that she is being gentle and “niiice”. The first nip is the one that hurts and tears up my hands. I’ve tried a sharp “NO!”,  I’ve tried redirecting her to one of her many toys, I’ve tried holding her (kind of like a headlock, but not) until she calms down or even hold her muzzle and tell her “no!”. I never hit her or tap her on the nose or anything like that. Sometimes she gets it and will stop. Sometimes she just has bad days where it’s all she wants to do.

I know I can’t expect her to learn everything super fast. She is only 12 weeks old, but this seems like something that shouldn’t take this long. I’m hoping puppy kindergarten will help with not only that, but socialize her and help me work with her on other behaviors. I’ve had dogs all my life, I have just never had one as a puppy this young so it is definitely a learning experience for us both.

Monday, Edie had her second visit to the vet. Everyone at the vet had never seen a Corgi puppy before and they would all grab her and love on her. I’m surprised they let me leave with her! Anyway, the first was a puppy wellness check, to make sure she is healthy. Monday she got her distemper vaccine. I was a little worried because yesterday when I left for work, she wasn’t her normal self and my sister told me she wasn’t really all day. She was very sluggish, slept a lot and very cuddly. Normally with Edie it is always GO! GO! GO! until she wears herself out and collapses for a nap a few times a day. I’m hoping she is better today or I am going to call the vet. Maybe it is a side effect of the shot? I’m trying not to worry though.

There is my Edie update! I love my little pup, puppy bites and all.
