First off, thank so much everyone for all your comments on my last post. I’m sure I will be bothering you all eventually for critiques, suggestions and editing. No, seriously, you will probably regret offering your help

As you all know, the lovely Jenn of Free and Flawed has been slaving away at putting together this delicious meet up for all us Chicago bloggy people. It just so happens that it is suppose to be Saturday! We have been hoping for some beautiful weather and crossing our fingers and toes for no rain, but it seems we have been foiled. I think rescheduling is inevitable. Should you be interested, if you have not yet commented on Jenn’s entry, what are you waiting for?!

I registered for fall classes today. I will be going Monday, Wednesday and Fridays from 8:00-2:00. Classes are Math, Psych, Ethics, Mass Communications and Speech. I’m glad I got that out of the way.

My parking ticket was for street cleaning. Street cleaning days are freaking stupid.

Lollapalooza line up was released a few days ago. Pretty sure I will be stalking Mark Ronson all weekend. Radiohead, Kanye, Brand New, Explosions in the Sky, Spank Rock, Chromeo, The Weakerthans, Santogold are just a few of the people I’m looking forward to seeing.

Edie decided she wanted to sleep with her face in the crook of my neck and shoulder while we slept last night.  My puppy is adorable.

You all need to read Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day. Some people caught the Australia reference. Gold stars for you! It’s my favorite children’s book. Although, I would love to go there. Chris said it all - koala bears!

It’s Wednesday, people! We are halfway there.

And just because I’m in the mood - here is some Justin for you.

Rock Your Body & Like I Love You

Music post

I think it is about time for more gifts! Lovely gifts of the musical kind! Plus, it’s Wednesday. We are half way through the week, some good tunes will give you that extra push on over. Right? RIGHT.

I put my Itunes on shuffle and uploaded the first 10 songs on zshare. I only skipped a song, if I already posted it in a previous entry.

I give you:

Uffie - Hot Chick

Amy Winehouse (feat. Ghostface Killa) - You Know I’m No Good

New Found Glory - Better Off Dead

Kanye West (feat. Dwele)- Flashing Lights

Engine Down - Songbird

Britney Spears (feat. Pharell) - Boys (Co-ed remix)

Brand New - Me vs Maradona vs Elvis

Michael Jackson- Rock With You

Yelle - Dans Ta Vraie Vie (Dirty Version)

Lil Suzy - Take Me In Your Arms

I really don’t think you can get more random than that! Pop punk, Britney, some MJ, French dance pop, some freestyle and more. I’m all over the place, but there is no doubt that I have impeccable taste! haha. You can stream or download them at the links too, btw.

I think you guys should do this. Even if you don’t upload the songs, it’ll be interesting!

Today I come bearing gifts. Gifts that make you want to dance. These songs are on an iTunes play list of songs I listen to at work. Why are they on there? Because it is full of songs the 2 year old likes to dance to. I try to keep the television to a minimum and whenever he asks for it, I say, “how about music instead?” I always get an enthusiastic, “DANCE! MUSIC JAMIE!”every time.

So with that I have a few of the little guy’s and my favorite songs to dance to at work.

Justice - D.A.N.C.E

MSTRKRFT - Monster Hospital (MSTRKRFT remix, original is by Metric)

Justin Timberlake - Rock Your Body

Moving Units - Anyone

Nelly Furtado - Do It

This kid is going to have amazing music taste when he grows up ;]

And how about a little celebrity update? I haven’t done that in a long time. Let’s see:

Jessica Alba = knocked up. Yup, it’s true.

Lily Allen slimmed down and looks fabulous in a photo spread for GQ.

Heidi makes an ass out of herself blasting her song outside of her car and pretending to sing.

If anyone knows what that is from, I will give you a million dollars. Okay, not really, but you would be my new best friend.

Every once in awhile, I go on a music kick where I rediscover how much I love a band and basically refuse to listen to anything but said band. Right now, I am definitely in that kind of mood about my favorite band, Jets to Brazil. Unfortunately, Jets to Brazil disbanded in 2003, right about when my obsession began and I never got to see them live. I can honestly say, if they ever decided to do a reunion show, no matter what, I would be there. I don’t care if I had to fly across the country, I’d book tickets as soon as I heard word.

Blake Schwarzenbach is incredible. He was in Jawbreaker also, another favorite. Basically, Blake is one of the main influences of so many bands and carved the shape of the indie/punk/emo scene and as Wikipedia says, is one of the “godfathers of emo”. But I don’t give a shit about all of that.

The man can write.

He’s one of those people you would kill just to have a conversation with, well, I would at least. So on this Tuesday, I am going to upload some songs from my favorite band in the world. Here’s two from each of their albums. They are beautiful and sad (some are sad), but so amazing. I had a hard time picking out only six!

Four Cornered Night
You’re Having the Time of My Life
Little Light

Orange Rhyming Dictionary

Chinatown
I Typed for Miles (my favorite song in the world ever)

Perfecting Loneliness
Cat Heaven
Further North

There you have it. My Jets to Brazil. If anyone would actually like the whole albums, email me and maybe you will get some holiday love from Blake and I in the mail!

Now, I propose a question: If you only had to listen to only one band (or artist) or album for the rest of your life, who would it be?

M.I.A.

Saturday
Nov 24,2007

Last night the boy and I went to go see M.I.A. We get there and in big letters we see SOLD OUT. It was probably my fault, because I didn’t get out of the house until 7:30 for the 8:00 show. It was such a bummer, because M.I.A. was actually headlining this time and the last few times we have seen her it has been with other acts. We really didn’t think it would sell out either. If you remember, a few weeks ago, I posted up an M.I.A. song or maybe no one was reading then. Since I missed out last night, everyone gets music today!

I don’t have the older album Arular on my computer. Maybe when William wakes up he will send me some songs from it. Here are a few more tracks off of Kala and one from Timbaland’s album Shock Value that features M.I.A.

Bamboo Banga
Paper Planes
Hit That
&
Come Around (featuring M.I.A.)

It’s a really different, awesome and unique sound, if you never heard of M.I.A. Seriously, give it a chance. I promise you will like it!

A little music for your Wednesday

Wednesday

What better way to get that extra push over to the other half of the week, than with a song. There is no better way! Obviously. That is why I have presents, lovely presents for your speakers and ears. Don’t say I never gave you anything!

I think I scared some of you off with my French dance music last week, no one really commented on the song. Whatever though! You are the ones missing out on a super dancey fun song! If you weren’t reading then or have just had a change of heart, you can still find it here.

I couldn’t really decide on what I wanted to upload for you guys today, so I enlisted a little help from my boyfriend, William. He dj’s pretty regularly here in Chicago, and he knows his shit! Then I picked one, so you have two songs today! Three, if you count last weeks because it is still up!

Today we have M.I.A - Bamboo Banga. If you haven’t heard of M.I.A, where the hell have you been these past two years? Seriously, get on this. Maya does it and does it well. (Wikipedia & Myspace)

Now I am going to hand this over to Will:

When Jamie asked me to pick one song to post on her blog, I knew it was going to be a bit tough. I had no clue where to start. Since she was posting something current, I decided to take it a bit back with this one (not too far though).

I’ve made sure that this track is a staple when I’m playing at the club. It isn’t as instantly recognized like his more popular songs (”Kiss”, “When Doves Cry”, “Erotic City”), but it isn’t any less of a jam (give me this song over those others any day). Maybe this is an obvious one for some of you…if it is, cool! If not, then enjoy! Off “Sign O Times”, released in ‘87: Prince - Hot Thing

Will is probably going to start hanging out at least once week and be the resident dj here over at Oh! How Lovely! so expect some more awesome (and most likely exclusive!) music from him soon!

Go listen to those songs. Dance around your office or house. Make Wednesday fun.

Bye!!

Gird your loins!

Are you ready? It is officially the start of NaBloPoMo or National Blog Posting Month, for those of you who aren’t in the know. I will be posting every day for 30 days or I fail at life, kind of like Heidi and Spencer.

For the little readers I have, if you would like to see me write about anything in particular this month, I will definitely take everything into consideration! I know I will probably feel like I am running out of ideas and will need a little help. Oh and don’t worry, not all my posts will be mocking celebrities or “celebrities” and about my frivolous shopping habits, I promise!

There are a couple things I have in mind for my blog this coming month. Not only will I have a pretty new bloggy design soon, but at least once a week, I do plan on posting at least one MP3 to stream or download, if you so choose. I will force my impeccable music taste on you, unsuspecting readers! You will love it. I swear. So what better way to kick of NaBloPoMo than with a song? As I said before, my music taste is across the board, so you never know what you will get when it comes to my MP3 days!

My choice for this week is Yelle - Je Veux Te Voir. The first link is her Myspace and the second is the actual song. It’s a French poppy club dance song that, I swear, will make you want to get your ass out of your computer chair and dance around. It’s such a fun song. I couldn’t tell you what the hell she is saying, but I still love it. Oh wait, I just looked it up, a tad vulgar. Oops.

Don’t even care.

It NaBloPoMo time, bitches!
